Hidden Risks
A major cause of injury to children in sport is mismatch of size, strength or skill.
Shockingly in sport, research confirms that the month your children are born may strongly influence how well they do in sport. At the age of eight, when many sports coaching systems start streaming into ability groups, it is possible for your child, who is yet to go through a key growth stage to compete with one who is eleven months older (nearly 15% older) and has gone into the next growth phase with all the strength and speed advantages that go with it. The experience for such a child may turn to regular defeat which the child could misinterpret as failure. If you couple such negative feelings with the pain of injury, it is hard to see what pleasure could be got from sport.
This can put kids off sport as well as increase their risk of injury!
